Monday, Sep 19th
On Monday, the first whole day after our guests ‘arrival, we met at school at 9:30. Some students went there earlier because of the bus. They used the extra timeto show their exchange students our school.
When everybody arrived at 9:30, Mrs Sommer, who acted as deputy for our headmistress Mrs Schmid-Hennies, delivered a really great speech. After that we took a picture together.
Then we met in room 223. Here a day full of presentation about the meeting‘s topic “working abroad“ started. First, we watched videos about the pros and cons of working abroad, which were prepared from every country. It was very funny. We noticed that for the Polish group the most important argument for going abroad was the money. For the other countries it was also an important point to work abroad, but for the Polish people it seemed more important.
At 11:15 some students gave a presentation about how to go abroad during or after school. It was very interesting and realistic, because every one of them had gained own experiences. They also asked if we could imagine to go abroad and why. So we got a good overview about the different opinions.
Then we had lunch at the school cafeteria. In the free time, that was left, we went through Hermannsburg and had some ice-cream.
After the break at 2 o’clock we went on with some presentations, which were given prepared by the Erasmus students. These presentations were about interviews with immigrants. They were revealing. But to even get a better insight into the life of an immigrant, there were some guest speakers. They told us their stories and we were able to ask questions. That was shocking as well as a kind of impressive.
And then, shortly after 4:15, our long presentation-day ended. Some of us went to a girl’s home not far away from school. There we, ate chips, talked a lot and enjoyed our free evening together.
Tuesday, Sep 20st
On Tuesday the guest students went to school with their hosts and everyone took part in the lessons. After school, we went to a climbing park in Walsrode. First, we got an introduction about the safety-rules and the different climbing trails of the park. There were a blue, a green, a yellow, a red and a black one and the differed in their difficulty level. Most of us started at the green one and stopped after the yellow one because the red one was about 10 meters higher than the others and by far harder. But although the red and the black trails were very hard, a few students continued until the black trail.
If you didn't want to climb or you already finished the trails you wanted to do, you had the chance to play soccer golf. It was like mini golf but in a giant version and with a football and your feet instead of a golf ball and a golf-racket. Afterwards you can say it was a great day and everyone had a lot of fun.
Wednesday, Sep 21st
On Wednesday we met at school to go to Wolfsburg at 8 am. After the bus was 20 minutes late our trip started. At 10am we had a tour around the Autostadt. A guide showed us different interesting places like the Bugatti house or the car tower, which is 84 meters high and there is space for 400 cars. It was very informative and after that we drove to the car factory by bus. Here, we had a behind-the-scenes tour in the production halls. We could see very closely how cars were built by people and robots. This was an amazing experience! Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take photos, because of the workers’ privacy. It was really impressive, because every 18 seconds one car is finished. After that we had free time for 2h and we were able to explore the Autostadt or went shopping in the outlet center.
All in all it was a funny and informative day at Volkswagen in Wolfsburg.
Thursday, Sep 22nd
Our day started at 8:20 in the morning and we spent all morning in the computer room. Today was all about the “job interview” and with our exchange students we worked on different presentations. Here we discussed the do’s and don’ts in a job interview. We presented our results at 12:00 o’clock. Some presentations included short role plays, others prepared posters or short PowerPoint presentations.
We had a free afternoon and went for some ice-cream and explored the area with our exchange partners.
Friday, Sep 23rd
On Friday we went to Hamburg. We all met at Unterlüß train station at 09:10 in the morning. We arrived in Hamburg around 11:00, then we went to the port of Hamburg by tube and had a harbour tour by boat where we saw different ships and drove through the warehouse district. The tour took around an hour and when it was over we had a short break and then walked to Hamburg's city hall, with a stop at Hamburg's main church St. Michaelis which is one of the town's landmarks. After arriving at the townhall we had around two hours of free time for shopping, a meal or sightseeing. Then we met at Hamburg Central Station to drive back to Unterlüß.
After the trip there was a potluck dinner at the school cafeteria with a lot of chatting, games and music, until we had to leave the school at 22:00.
